Graphene is made up of a single layer (monolayer) of carbon atoms that are tightly bound together in a hexagonal honeycomb lattice. It is a carbon allotrope consisting of a plane of sp2-bonded atoms with a molecular bond length of 0.142 nanometres. Graphite is made up of graphene layers stacked on top of each other, with an interplanar spacing of 0.335 nanometres. Van der Waals forces hold the separate layers of graphene in graphite together, which can be overcome during graphene exfoliation from graphite.
Market Analysis: The global graphene market was worth $87.5 million in 2019 and is anticipated to be worth $876.8 million by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 40.2 percent between 2020 and 2027. Graphene is a fire-resistant material that is also a good conductor, extremely versatile, and 200 times stronger than steel.
